Project Summary |
Economies that seek market access for many products of agricultural biotechnology often require regulatory frameworks that can assess the risks and benefits of those products. Due to three decades of experience with products of agricultural biotechnology, economies can collectively share lessons learned to enhance regulatory processes. This project would develop a policy approaches document that describes best practices and approaches that could serve as a resource for economies considering new regulatory approaches for agricultural biotechnology products, with an objective of developing enabling polices that could mitigate the effects of climate change, strengthen supply chains, and increase regional food security. Through incorporating input from APEC economies, the document could be used to: share best practices and approaches related to the recognition of authorizations granted by another government; share information used to conduct safety assessments; develop a glossary of technical terms related to agricultural biotechnology; and develop approaches for transgenic and genome-edited products.
