| Project Summary | As economies continue to develop their regulatory systems and implement systems to manage the expansion of food trade, economy governments and industry are noticing an increase of Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs) that affect trade. This project will support APEC economies by bringing together government and industry to identify NTMs affecting grain trade in the APEC region, and potential approaches to addressing them. A survey will be developed to identify the range of NTMs that are perceived to be a barrier to trade for APEC economies. Following this survey, a workshop will be held to discuss the findings and agree on the two most significant NTMs. These priority NTMs could be taken forward in potential future APEC projects, with one NTM to be selected and discussed at a second workshop under this project. The first workshop is proposed to be held in Australia in September 2019, with a findings report to be delivered to APEC economies by December 2019. A second workshop will be held in Malaysia, aligned with SOM1 in February 2020. |
