Project Summary

This project seeks to build capacities on APEC members to address three common grand challenges through fostering innovation in SMEs. Facing this challenges will demand cooperation between economies, academia and the public and private sectors.

Advanced Manufacturing for SMEs: the adoption of networked information based technologies throughout the manufacturing and supply chain imposes unique adaptation challenges to SMEs. Policies to help SMEs adapt will be discussed here.

The Silver Economy, a Growing Market: Falling birth-rates and increasing life expectancy is increasing the share of the population over 60, and creating a new market segment with unique needs and opportunities. This panel will discuss how SMEs can seize them.

Sustainability through Circular Business Models: Waste reduction and management is one of the big obstacles towards achieving real sustainability in our economies. Reincorporating waste into the value chain as raw materials can provide a viable answer to address part of this issue.
