Project Summary

Waste generation is a concern for APEC member economies not only because of its growing trend, but also because of the informal nature of the waste sector. The Circular economy model enables waste minimization and resource optimization through re-use, repurposing and recycling; it can therefore be seen as a way of encouraging the informal waste sector to transition to the formal economy. Thus, the project seeks to show how the informality of the waste sector has been addressed in the environmental and industrial legislation, among some APEC developing members.

A half-day workshop is scheduled for September 10, 2024, in Pucallpa, Ucayali, Peru. During the workshop, some case studies of the identified practices will be presented. A Summary Report will be prepared including the results of a satisfaction survey.
