Project Summary

There are a wide range of approaches and tools to improve food security.  One of the most important issues is concerning enhancing productivity and resource conservation on arable lands.

As appropriate to the local context, policy makers should consider policies that facilitate farmers abilities to:

1)  Utilize sustainable land use practices through advancing soil quality, preventing water loss and soil erosion, and changing farming habits.

2) Refarming potential reserved lands such as  saline and alkaline land and low cover grassland, bare land, sand land, tidal land, etc., from perspectives of economic and ecological benefits.

3) Increase sustainable productivity.

Increase arable land productivity sustainably, while lowering adverse ecological effects such as greenhouse gas emission, and overapplication of fertilizers and pesticides, and etc. The workshop will be organized in a hybrid (both be in person and virtually) manner in middle October, 2024. In the workshop, APEC economies will share research outputs, good practices and policies in APEC region on what mentioned above, which will dramatically contribute to the achievement of food security.
