Project Summary

A critical element of just energy transitions is community-centered approaches, which aim to build low-carbon economies while bringing long term benefits to the communities and groups directly involved in or impacted by energy and natural resource projects. The Non-binding Just Energy Transition Principles for APEC Cooperation promote efforts to advance energy transitions that engage communities in an equitable and inclusive way. Amongst the principles is the priority to support inclusion and gender equality when developing future energy transition policies and programs. This project aims to build capacity through the sharing of experiences and approaches related to rural, remote and Indigenous communities as appropriate in their respective just energy transition efforts.

The project will include an in-person workshop on the margins of EWG68/EMM where member economies and experts from relevant sectors will present on various elements of their approaches to working with rural, remote Indigenous communities as appropriate.
