Project Summary

By adopting a comprehensive and inclusive approach it is possible to strengthen capacities and increase the appreciation of traditional knowledge (TK), sometimes called traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) or indigenous knowledge systems (IKS) in the context of biodiversity within the STI ecosystem.

An important action agenda to work on is to recognize, promote and apply these knowledges through a mechanism to link both traditional knowledge holders and scientists, exploring opportunities for the sustainable use of biodiversity resources and respecting traditional practices   and indigenous involvement at the same time.

The pressures of climate change make necessary to promote collaboration and the exchange of experiences and the recognition of indigenous knowledge as an intrinsic value using science between APEC economies. This involves establishing global networks and sharing best practices dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity (including agrobiodiversity) and sustainable development.
