Project Summary

The legal and regulatory environment can either promote or restrict women’s economic participation, influencing regional growth and prosperity. In 2022, the U.S. published the Gender and Structural Reform: Achieving Economic Growth through Inclusive Policies Economic Impact Assessment (EIA). The EIA suggests a vision for policymakers on where to potentially focus structural reform efforts and provides quantitative evidence on the areas of reform that are likely to increase economic growth. The data for the original EIA was through 2019. To understand any changes in results, an updated EIA will utilize data from the COVID-19 pandemic to help find and analyze any learnings that resulted during a more recent timeframe. This project will utilize new data from the original publishing and culminate in an updated assessment. The aim is to provide APEC stakeholders the information that could be used to advocate for improving the environment for women’s economic participation, including any information on the effects of COVID-19 on structural reform and women’s empowerment.
