Project Summary

Women play pivotal roles in the marine industry, yet they often encounter significant barriers, and their contributions are overlooked. The UN FAO’s State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture report (2022) reveals that only 15% of full-time workers in the field are women, indicating inadequate inclusion efforts.

Aligned with the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040, this project aims to promote an inclusive and sustainable blue economy through innovative technology, focusing on advancing women’s engagement, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, and empowering them in the marine industry. A workshop and field trips will facilitate discussions and private-public dialogues to address these challenges.

Collaborative efforts will provide platforms for capacity building across small-scale fisheries, ocean conservation, marine culture, and ocean sustainable development. Through promoting a sustainable and inclusive environment, these initiatives aim to cultivate a resilient marine industry.
