Project Summary

The overarching objective of the project is to mitigate regional biosecurity risks by harmonising biosecurity management in the Asia-Pacific region and building participants’ capacity to address risks through awareness raising and information sharing.

Australia intends to assist quarantine pre-shipment biosecurity treatment providers in developing APEC economies to develop their capacity to conduct treatments in accordance with mutually agreed treatment methodologies. Effective biosecurity management, preferably at the source of export, is essential to safeguarding regional agricultural industries and maintaining resilient trade networks.

The key things that the project will do is facilitate developing APEC economies’ attendance at multilateral meetings and workshops and their participation in specialised training activities. Outputs of the project include the Quarantine Regulators Meeting (QRM), and the International Cargo Cooperative Biosecurity Arrangement (ICCBA) Steering Committee Meeting and Workshops.
