Project Summary

Many SME exporters are not fully utilising available technologies that would ease trade, reduce costs, build stakeholder-trust, and enhance demonstration of good ESG (environment, social and governance) practices.  Adopting such technologies would, however, make them more competitive in global markets, and support them to grow sustainably.

This project will:

(i)  provide the latest insights into various digital technologies being used to assist SME participation in global value chains; and

(ii)  improve SMEs’ knowledge of and opportunities to access and participate in these global value chains utilising digital technologies in their business practices.

The project will include:

(i)  a virtual workshop to introduce the core concepts of the topic

(ii) a half-day in-person APEC Symposium on Technology and Trade in which experts will discuss the benefits of digital technologies and invited SMEs from APEC member economies will share the digital approaches they have taken to increase their participation in global markets and value chains,

(iii)  a half-day in-person site visit(s) to business facilities online resources including articles, case studies, and guidance notes.
