Project Summary

The circular economy (CE) has the opportunity to deliver substantial economic, social, and environmental benefits by improving resource efficiency, minimizing consumption, and reducing waste production. Standards play a significant role in the transition to a circular economy by creating a common framework, building trust in circular products, and providing guidance for circular business practices. This project aims to provide guidance to APEC economies in the implementation of CE practices using standards. This will be achieved through the collation of CE related standards and use-cases to provide practical examples and recommendations for implementation in APEC economies. This project activities includes identification of existing CE related standards, a knowledge sharing and best practices workshop, and delivery of a final guidance and recommendations report. This effort is aligned to UN SDG 12 on Sustainable Consumption and Production and builds upon recommendations from the 13th Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC) conference to share CE case studies and develop standards guidance.
