Project Summary

STEM fields are crucial to sustainable economic growth, but women remain underrepresented in STEM careers, leaving a huge source of potential economic growth untapped. This project will develop a metrics framework for decisionmakers to identify the types of quantitative data that need to be collected to monitor implementation progress of the APEC Women in STEM Principles and Actions, endorsed by PPSTI in 2019. The project will conduct consultations with economies to identify datapoints that can be practically and sustainably collected in the APEC region, implement capacity building workshops, and produce a metrics framework to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement. The project will also develop an implementation plan to assist decisionmakers on how to overcome barriers to data collection. The project will allow APEC economies to focus domestic and regional initiatives for promoting women in STEM with a more robust focus on data and evidence.
