Project Summary

With significant flows of economic activities across borders among APEC economies, and with the APEC economies being key remittance corridors, there are increasing demands from businesses and individuals for ways to make cross-border transactions safer, more efficient, and more convenient.

At the APEC Finance and Central Bank Deputies’ Meeting (APEC FCBDM) on 16 – 17 March 2022, Thailand proposed APEC economies draft a policy paper providing options for the development of cross-border payment connectivity to be one of the deliverables under the 2022 Finance Ministers’ Process. These policy options can provide alternative solutions to long-standing challenges in the field of cross-border payments and remittances.

To this end, this project proposes to hold a virtual workshop as a platform for central banks and other relevant agencies in APEC economies to exchange views and experiences on cross-border payment connectivity. These will be inputs for the APEC Policy Options for Developing Cross-border Payments and Remittances.
