Project Summary

APEC economies are striving for economic recovery, as well as resilient and quality long-term growth. The Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model was proposed as an approach to drive a paradigm shift where economic gains go hand in hand with environmental sustainability.

It is worth noting from the project “Understanding the BCG Economy Model for Strong, Balanced, Secure, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in the Asia-Pacific” that APEC economies are applying bio-, circular-, and green economy strategies according to their specific needs to achieve sustainable economic growth. In certain areas, all of the three approaches are applied. The project highlighted that partnerships among stakeholders/whole-of-society approach are necessary to advance our efforts.

Building on this, this project will organise a roundtable to showcase success stories of public-private-people partnership (4Ps) in advancing the BCG Economy. These success stories will be a basis for dialogue among stakeholders, namely policymakers, private sector, financial institutions, academia and youth, on how APEC can shape policies and build an enabling ecosystem to transition our economic system towards sustainability.

The roundtable will help strengthen networks among stakeholders and produce a reference on how to operationalise sustainability in business, particularly through partnership for the BCG Economy, sustainable financing and promotion of existing principles and standards on business responsibility. Following the roundtable, a report will be produced outlining the content and findings, as well as the way forward.
