Project Summary

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused severe disruptions to cross-border travel in the APEC region. While necessary to contain the pandemic, this has caused major economic damage to international trade, business travel, and tourism. As APEC economies begin the path to recovery via vaccine distribution, increase testing, and quarantine they will need to continue to explore utilizing innovative tools to facilitate safe cross-border travel, such as COVID-19 tests and vaccine authentication systems. 
This project will convene relevant economic, health, travel/transport/tourism and customs/border authorities, along with the private sector (e.g., airlines, airport/travel operators, test and vaccine manufacturers, digital technology developers) in an online workshop in May 2022 to exchange views and share technologies that can be used to facilitate the resumption of travel, accounting for the specific pandemic conditions facing each APEC economy while fully respecting and observing the policies and requirements made by each economy to contain the pandemic.
