COVID-19 exposed the fragility of health systems and demonstrated how gaps in pandemic preparedness and vulnerabilities in health systems can have wide ranging health and economic costs. There are opportunities to learn from the COVID-19 pandemic experience and to find solutions that can strengthen and transform health systems to avoid future disruptions that can have far reaching consequences. The project will aim to increase economies’ preparedness to mitigate and effectively manage future pandemics, epidemics, and emerging cross border disease threats by sharing lessons learned and capturing good practice examples via a stock-take. The results will be discussed at an APEC public-private dialogue which will provide an opportunity for APEC members to exchange ideas and collectively identify solutions to delivering safe and equitable health services in the region.
