Project Summary

This initiative seeks to provide Indigenous entrepreneurs or early stage Indigenous small businesses with fundamental knowledge about doing business across borders.  The intention is to encourage preparedness for international trade, and build some capability to take the necessary first steps with confidence.

This proposal builds on, and applies lessons learned from, the Growing Indigenous Business through Trade pilot project undertaken in 2021.  This follow-on project will involve a series of online seminars, one-on-one coaching, and access to a virtual resource centre. The project will seek to target participants with real interest and commitment to exploring global markets.  Applying lessons and feedback received from 2021, additional time will be allocated for individual coaching, and supplementary material will be made available for participants looking to share their knowledge with their communities.

The initiative is intended to boost the success and contribution of Indigenous businesses to trade and economic growth, and help demonstrate that trade can be more inclusive. In this way, the project strongly aligns with the Putrajaya Vision 2040 and the Aotearoa Plan of Action to support Strong, Balanced, Secure, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth, including by enhancing economic opportunities for Indigenous businesses and entrepreneurs.
