Project Summary

In the pursuit of an inclusive approach to trade and economic growth, economies within the Asia-Pacific region have the opportunity to advance Indigenous businesses’ participation in the global economy through e-commerce and use of digital tools. For Indigenous businesses, exporting can be an essential strategy for business growth and success. Digital tools and platforms have made international expansion more accessible than ever before. This project will include interview-based research and a report exploring how Indigenous small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are using digital tools, including social media, to connect the world with their cultures through digitally-enabled trade. Through select case studies, the report will also examine how to maximize the benefits of digitally-enabled trade for Indigenous-led businesses. The project will also include an accompanying virtual event featuring select SMEs profiled in the report, experts, APEC economy officials and business representatives to expand on themes from the research.
