Project Summary

The project takes into account the ongoing trend of dynamic development of carbon pricing schemes and emissions management incentives as a part of global response to climate change. At the same time it builds on the recent APEC commitments including those reflected in APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040, envisaging promotion of economic policies and cooperation aimed at addressing environmental challenges.

It consists of a questionnaire that would compile economic incentives, primarily  pricing schemes, of APEC members and a workshop with the APEC stakeholders discussing approaches to greenhouse gas (GHG) regulation, with a focus on relevant economic instruments, as well as opportunities for cross-border cooperation to reduce emissions.

The results of the project will be accumulated in the report that will contribute to the preparation of the 2022 APEC Economic Policy Report and, more generally, fulfilment of the Joint Structural Reform Ministerial Statement 2021 and Enhanced APEC Agenda for Structural Reform (EAASR) provisions.
