Project Summary

Supporting the implementation of international tax standards has been a consistent part of APEC’s work plan and is a prominent feature of the Cebu Action Plan. The OECD has organised capacity-building workshops in collaboration with host economies in prior years, and was mandated by the JMS in 2020 to deliver similar workshops in 2021.

The first proposed workshop, to be held 21/22 July 2021, will focus on the tax policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, covering a survey of the approaches taken at the outset of the crisis, which approaches have been particularly successful and how economies are now looking to tax policy as a lever to ensure that relief remains targeted and supports a strong and inclusive recovery.

The second proposed workshop, to be held in September, will focus on how digitalisation can transform tax administration in the near and medium term and how new technologies can enhance compliance and collection efforts as well as help tax administrations link up with other governmental agencies to maximise efficiency and coherence of government policies.
