Project Summary

Public consultation is a fundamental good regulatory practice to develop efficient, transparent, and informed regulations. Even with strong mechanisms in place, in time-sensitive matters requiring a regulatory response it can be challenging for economies to carry out the public consultation process both thoroughly and within the time limitations. The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the need for governments to be responsive and react in a timely manner in a rapidly changing regulatory environment. To address the current challenges and prepare economies to respond to future critical matters, the United States will hold a virtual workshop focused on expediting public consultation processes when justified by the need to address urgent situations. The workshop will explore the role of technology in expediting the consultation process and maintaining good regulatory processes even in urgent situations. In addition, it will underscore the importance of applying fundamental transparency and consultation processes even when facing time, resource, and other constraints.
