Project Summary

2020 has been heavily defined by the COVID-19 pandemic, which exerted a devastating impact on businesses, in particular, the SMEs. As small businesses are integral to the development of APEC region, contributing to 40 to 60 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) and over 97 percent of employments, it is imperative to help SMEs survive and get back on their feet. Regarding the development of digital economy and technology, going digital turns to be the best way out for SMEs. However, how to adapt business strategies and embrace digital transformation remains unclear to many of the small businesses.

In order to help SMEs build their resilience and respond to the pandemic, China proposes to hold a one-day conference in end of May, 2021 in Chengdu, China. The conference will discuss and focus on the theme of “SME Digital Economic Development”, consisting of keynote speech by service providers, case sharing, high-end dialogue and so on. For safety concerns, the conference will be conducted in hybrid setting (i.e. both physical and virtual setting). Those who could not attend the offline conference in Chengdu can enjoy the online conference through Peng Cloud Video Conferencing system at the same time. After the Conference, there will be follow-up activities, the SME Digitalization Roadshows, which aim to better support the digital transformation and digital consumption of SMEs.
