This workshop delivers on one of New Zealand’s key action items in the APEC Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030, improving agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories. It is a joint initiative between APEC and the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA), to build capacity in measuring and quantifying livestock GHG emissions, enabling governments and farmers to encourage more efficient and productive agricultural systems and inform climate change mitigation strategies.
The workshop will: 1) introduce recent advancements in livestock GHG inventory methodologies; 2) facilitate discussion on livestock production system development and the climate challenges faced; 3) demonstrate the role of robust science to support economies tracking progress toward meeting Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC’s to the UNFCCC); and 4) identify opportunities to build regional and domestic capacity.
The workshop aligns with ATCWG’s objective to improve capacity within agricultural production systems and related industries through sharing information on agriculture, animal, biotechnology and biogenetic resource management.
