Project Summary

To further implement the APEC Counterterrorism and Secure Trade Strategy and the CTWG Strategic Plan, the United States and co-sponsoring APEC member economies propose to hold a virtual workshop on soft target protection in an aviation security context, based on the APEC Soft Target Protection.

Recommendations produced in April 2018. This virtual workshop will promote greater awareness and understanding of how to apply the recommendations in the aviation environment. The workshop will also increase understanding of aviation security policies and practices among APEC member economies, and how they relate to protecting soft targets/public spaces and critical infrastructure, as well as promote the exchange of good practices and capacity building measures with a focus on information sharing. The workshop will result in a set of recommendations for developing, expanding and/or implementing aviation security policies that address soft targets/public spaces and critical infrastructure, tailored to APEC.

Working-level practitioners from the interior, law enforcement, foreign affairs, security, counterterrorism, and other relevant ministries and fields (e.g., tourism, business mobility, emergency preparedness) will be invited.
