Project Summary

A Trade Policy Dialogue (TPD) is proposed for the 2nd Senior Officials Meeting (SOM2) cluster in Malaysia.  The TPD will provide an opportunity for officials, ABAC, and other stakeholders to build on discussions on digital trade held since 2016, including topics explored during TPDs held last year in Chile, particularly how to broaden participation in e-commerce and digital trade, including through facilitation and cooperation.  The TPD will include a presentation from ABAC on its ongoing efforts in the Digital and Innovation Working Group and complement efforts by APEC 2020 host Malaysia to implement its priority area on “Inclusive Economic Participation through Digital Economy and Technology.”    Sessions will include discussions from policymakers on developing policies and frameworks to facilitate digital trade and enhance participation in the digital economy.  Businesses, including SMEs, will be invited to share their experiences.  Economies will discuss new opportunities for engagement, including ways to facilitate a commercial environment that promotes industry development and adoption of emerging technologies.
