Small and medium enterprises policy have been identified as a key area for APEC future work. Following on from the study carried out by APEC PSU in 2010 “SME Market Access and Internationalization: Medium-term KPIs for the SMEWG Strategic Plan”, Chile proposes, through funding from Chile
[1], that the PSU undertake a study that would update the information which characterize the SME sector on APEC economies. The research study will also identify the key issues and challenges for future work for APEC economies individually and collectively. It is intended as a study to explore the key issues in APEC that are relevant over the next 3-5 years. The research project aligns with Chile’s host year priority of “Women, SMEs, and Inclusive Growth”, as well as the APEC Agenda on Advancing Economic, Financial and Social Inclusion, the Renewed APEC Agenda on Structural Reform and SME, and it also aligns with the 2018 APEC Ministerial Chair’s Statement concerning MSMEs.
