Project Summary

Social Network has become a vital element on business and personal activities. According to Statistic, it’s estimated that by 2018, 2.44 billion people will be using social media globally. APEC region, with one-third of world population, has a huge contribution on this figure. The impacts of social network appear in many areas such as finance, public health, politics, human right and climate change. While many people are trying to reap the full benefits from information disseminated by this new digital technology, others are also concerning on the authenticity, the reliability and the safety of contents on the social network. Recommendations for supporting innovations while maintaining legitimate public interests must be considered by cooperation with both public and private sectors. The Public-Private Dialogue on Status, Trends, Opportunities and Threats of Social Network will gather experts in APEC to update the status and share their experiences on the social network governance.
