Project Summary

This self-funded project aims at approving the publication of the APEC Sustainable Urban Development Annual Report– From Models to Results, to be released in December 2018.

The purpose of this report is to identify sustainability gaps of APEC cities and to derive elements of a strategy for overcoming them. It finds that although APEC has proposed innovative actions towards sustainable urbanization, APEC cities would still benefit from upscaling their efforts in a results-oriented collaborative action plan, making sustainable urbanization available to a greater part of the population. A targeted focus on new energy technologies could improve synergies between economic performance, greater social inclusiveness, lower environmental impact and higher resiliency against catastrophes.

A draft of this report has been presented at a round-table of the Fourth Asia-Pacific Energy Sustainable Development Forum organized by APSEC on 20 September 2018. Comments received thereafter have been incorporated into the text.
