Project Summary

The purpose of “Advancing Career Development of Athletes in the APEC Region” is to discuss the most effective ways by which to advance the career development of athletes, especially women and young athletes, at start-ups and in other entrepreneurial endeavors after they transition out of their athletic careers. This project is a continuation of the project “APEC High Level Policy Dialogue on Education and Career Planning for Young Athletes” (HRD 05 2016S), and aims to provide a platform for scholars and athletes to share relevant best practices with all APEC economies, especially best practices concerning the transition from athletics to entrepreneurship in the form of sports innovation and start-ups. Under this project, two workshops will be held each year, and the APEC Sports Newsletter will also be published in April, July, and October of each year with articles on themes related to APEC’s priorities and the goals of HRDWG. The newsletter also serves as an information platform to share APEC economies’ policies and best practices on issues related to sports and human resources.
