Project Summary

Since 2013, the APEC “Healthy Women, Healthy Economies” (HWHE) initiative has worked to tackle health-related barriers to women’s economic participation, including gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and a lack of family-friendly policies in the workplace. 2015 saw the launch of a HWHE Policy Toolkit, a menu of options for issues that economies may pursue in part or as a whole, and the initiative has since provided tools to promote implementation. This year, the initiative aims to expand implementation by targeting SMEs. The HWHE Guidebook for SMEs will shape and tailor the relevant toolkit policies and actions so that they can be implemented by SMEs and governments addressing policies for SMEs. The guidebook will demonstrate successful cases of application and impacts SMEs have seen from implementation of health-related policies to promote women’s employment. A draft of the guidebook was‎ shared at the August workshop and will be finalized by the end of 2018.
