Project Summary

This is a multi-year capacity building project which aims to provide member economies with the knowledge and expertise to further develop and improve their urban and inter-city commuter railway networks, based on their local economic and social needs. The project will commence with a first workshop in November 2018 to draw upon the connections and experience of the earlier China International Railway Conference (CIRC). The workshop aims to develop a framework of uptake and governance for relevant technologies to be tailored to meet the above needs for future plan. The workshop will bring together key stakeholders including policy makers, major industry players and experts to share their experiences. Participating economies will be encouraged to nominate qualified delegates from relevant agencies to ensure productive collaborative discussions. Phase Two in 2019 will review its program and timeline on the uptake and implementation of project outcomes against key case studies to be selected from participating economies. This is expected to involve the placement and on-the-job training of qualified participants within responsible companies and institutions worldwide. Target outcomes include: the facilitation of tangible economic and social benefits in participating economies; technological uptake in the implementation of new mass transit infrastructure projects; and progress towards more efficient, cost-effective public transport systems. A high-level meeting will be held, as a key part of Phase Three in 2020, to review overall achievement and take stock of measures contributing to sustainable livable cities. The project is aligned with the TPT-WG Strategic Plan, focusing on contributing towards socio-economic improvement through public-private partnerships and the adoption of technology for sustainable and liveable urban centres.
