Project Summary

With the development of industry, the busy shipping industry and human activities, harmful algal blooms (HABs) are a major environmental problem world widely, especially in APEC economies, having severe impacts on human health, aquatic ecosystems, fisheries, tourism and the economy. The project seeks to address the issue of marine ecosystem conservation, disaster resilience, sustainable use of marine resources and food security in APEC region through promoting the study of causative species of harmful algal blooms and mechanism of their migration dynamics in Asia-Pacific region. The project will be an important capacity building platform for all the APEC economies to share the status and research achievement on HABs of their own economies. The 2 days workshop will be conducted in Oct. 2018 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.
