Project Summary

This one-day seminar would provide a platform for APEC economies to discuss the core challenges in the telecommunications services sector, and explore ways to strengthen the sector’s competitiveness, efficiency and effectiveness. The seminar would promote APEC Services Competitiveness Roadmap (ASCR) objectives, and would equip economies with information and knowledge required to instigate reforms and undertake necessary transformation in the sector in their respective economies.

The seminar is expected to benefit all APEC developing economies. Economies would understand the policy, structural and regulatory impediments in the sector, and learn from experts on possible approaches and tools to overcome such barriers and revitalize the sector.

In order to take advantage of the International subject matter experts present on the day, a targeted capacity-building workshop will be held in the afternoon, specifically designed for PNG (APEC host economy). It is expected that PNG government and industry participants would discuss (in depth) the challenges and opportunities relating to their telecommunications sector.

It is anticipated that a report summarising key outcomes from this seminar will be presented in a report tabled at the Group of Services (GOS) meeting in late 2018.
