APEC’s energy demands are rapidly increasing, resulting in a strong need for reliable energy access and a way to attract more financing and investment for cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable energy production in the region. This project will conduct a regional study on renewable energy financing and investment, focusing on the investment climate for renewable energy projects and best practices for attracting investment and addressing current challenges. While APEC economies are utilizing a vast array of renewable energy sources, this study will focus particularly on grid-connected wind and solar projects in order to achieve a manageable scope. As the dominant renewable energy technologies, wind and solar are plausible sources of energy throughout most of APEC and represent a bulk of planned renewable installations. By focusing on grid-connected projects in particular, the study can prioritize larger-scale projects due to their greater impact on energy production and environmental benefits, while still remaining relevant to all economies.
