With the development of the global supply chains and cross-border movement of labor force, all APEC economies are connected to each other and face the challenge resulting from digitalization and AI development. Technology and New economy is making some traditional job models disappear and bring new types of work which will influence labor laws, labor skills and social protection. We propose ways to cooperate with other APEC economies and share practical experiences to solve the regional common problems.
Based on the theme and priority areas defined by PNG in 2018 for promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Growth and echo the “APEC Framework on Human Resources Development in the Digital Age” proposed by Viet Nam, we propose the “Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Growth by Enhancing Social Protection in the Digital Age” initiative which aims to strengthen cooperation and dialogue among APEC economies. Objectives of the project are:
1) To share best practice and experience on how to address the gap in labor and social protection for workers resulting from the global supply chains and cross-border movement of labor force in the APEC region;
2) To develop policies to empower and equip governments, companies, and NGOs to formulate better labor regulations; formulating decent work and fairer social protection; and
3) To strengthen stronger connectivity and more sustainable and inclusive growth in APEC region, by exploring the possibility of joint research on topic of shared interest.
