The issue of marine debris has received high attention from economies, international organizations and multiple fora. Since 2014, APEC has carried out relevant work, including relevant teleconferences and workshops, to promote the process of marine debris cooperation. The Workshop on Best Practices Sharing on Marine Debris Management in Coastal Cities of APEC Region was successfully held by China in Xiamen on Nov 4-5th, 2017, thanks to the great interest and contribution of APEC economies,the workshop was put into the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on “Oceans and the law of the Sea” as Article 215. As a follow-up of the workshop in Xiamen, this new program proposes to collect innovative approaches and to share best practice in addressing marine debris in the APEC region. A workshop including 1-day meeting and 1-day scientific tour will be held in July 2018 in Beijing, China. Managers/policy makers, researchers and private-sectors related to marine debris from APEC economies will be invited. The workshop will help to encourage continuous involvement and accelerate the marine debris solutions.
