Marine debris brings a significant and growing public health and environmental threat with the rapid urbanization of APEC economies, costing APEC economies over billions dollars a year in losses to fishing, shipping, tourism and insurance. APEC Marine Sustainable Development Center (AMSDC) actively participated and promoted in marine waste sustainable management under the APEC framework.
AMSDC is willing to provide a platform for discussion on marine debris issues and for the sharing of best practice in these coastal cities, knowledge and technologies, and help to reduce marine debris in APEC region.
A workshop on best practices sharing on marine debris management in coastal cities of APEC region will be held in Nov. 2017 in Xiamen, China. Coastal managers, researchers or policy makers related to marine debris issues from APEC economies will be invited. The workshop aims to share experience in management of waste in coastal cities in APEC region and provide suggestions for solving the problem of marine waste in coastal cities.
