Project Summary

With food systems increasing in complexity, supply chains spanning the globe, and increasing climate risk, food security has emerged as one of the most pressing concerns of the 21st century. This project will support regional technical cooperation and policy through addressing the impacts of climate change on food systems by conducting the APEC Climate Symposium 2017 in Can Tho, Viet Nam, feeding into the subsequent APEC Food Security Week. It will explore the climate vulnerability of agro-food systems and investigate how climate information can be employed in building resilient and sustainable food systems, with a special focus on policy applications. A diverse range of experts will be brought together to holistically address agricultural production and beyond, including topics on risk and disaster management, value chains, and insurance. The conference will also feature a panel discussion to wrap-up the symposium and articulate policy, to better equip regional decision-makers in national planning.
