The transition from analog to digital broadcasting is currently under way, and with it the construction of infrastructure that can provide more advanced broadcasting services. It is vital that we capitalize on the advantages offered by digitalization and introduce early, the next-generation broadcasting with even more high-definition video technology (4K/8K) to satisfy viewers who are after more high-resolution, high-tech services. It is also important to create new contents, services and businesses, and develop associated industries.
The aim of this project is for each economy to share its efforts, experiences and best practices regarding the next-generation broadcasting, and thus aid the smooth implementation of the next-generation broadcasting as well as the development of related industries in the APEC region.
The aim of this project is for each member economy to share its experience including the following items:
1) Policy development related to 4K/8K: Implementation of 4K/8K broadcasting cannot be realized without development of policies, on matters such as support to private businesses. By sharing information on trends in policy development in the APEC economies, the project works towards the sophistication of each economy’s policies.
2) Business trends surrounding 4K/8K: Many businesses related to 4K/8K are running test broadcasts and demonstration experiments through various transmission lines, with some businesses already pushing forward with commercialization. Receivers that are compatible with 4K/8K broadcasts are also in development. In light of these circumstances, it will be beneficial to hold discussions with these businesses on the current conditions and challenges surrounding their efforts.
3) Utilization potential of 4K/8K in various areas of industry: 4K/8K have possible applications not only in broadcasting, but also in other industries such as medical care, education and security; as such, it is expected to create major economic effects. Through sharing information about the present conditions and future possibilities concerning applications in various industries, in parallel with information about broadcasting, the project aims to promote effective growth.
The primary work of this project is to hold a half-day workshop, in which parties relevant to 4K/8K, such as policy makers, government regulatory agencies and related business operators, will conduct discussions and reviews.
A half-day workshop for sharing information is scheduled to be held at APEC TEL52.
