This project supports the broad APEC agendas of technical cooperation, competency standardisation and skilled labour mobility. The project builds on a recommendation from the establishment phase of the Integrated Referencing Framework for Skills Recognition and Mobility (IRF) project to pilot the draft APEC Occupational Standards Framework (OSF) concept in an additional industry sector. This project will bring together five economies to test this framework and develop regional occupational standards for five occupations in the travel, tourism and hospitality (tourism) industry. This broad industry sector represents a significant growth industry for many APEC economies. To capture the full potential of this growth, governments and industry must collaborate to ensure that training produces outcomes that meet the needs of businesses in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry and provide the level of service consumers expect. This can be achieved firstly through the creation of regional occupational standards which can then be used to inform distinct training standards and/or curriculum within each economy’s technical vocational education and training (TVET) system.
