There are diversified agricultural policies for food security depending on conditions and environment. In particular, APEC economies are not only diverse in geography, climate and food production, but also differ in economic development and science technologies. Meanwhile, increasing trade within new regional blocs in addition to new environmental issues concerning this region will further complicate socio-economic situations and require concerted policy efforts since food production and distribution is one of the most vulnerable areas to be affected by trade, investment and economic integration. By sharing various policy experiences and best practices with other economies, we can identify suitable policy recommendations for each economy and utilize such information in formulating new policies for food security.
Korea plans to hold the APEC Food Security Workshop on sharing agricultural policy experiences to promote food security at the regional and economy level and seek policy directions that best suit the situation of economies.
The workshop will be organized by KREI (Korea Rural Economic Institute) which has provided accumulated agricultural policy experiences and policy consulting services for food security by implementing KAPEX(Korean Agricultural Policy Experiences for Food Security project) since 2013.
The objectives are to:
・ Develop capacities of the persons in charge through the exchange of agricultural policies and technologies with one another;
・ Identify suitable policies for individual member economies and utilize such information in formulating new policies for food security; and
・ Strengthen regional cooperation in agriculture by incorporating follow-up projects.
The workshop will be held in Seoul, Korea, in October 2016.
