APEC economies are experiencing a demographic transition toward older populations. This puts increasing pressure on their social security systems and is expected to cause acute labour shortages. As the experience of some member economies shows, raising the retirement age can be part of the solution to these problems.
The project aims to conduct a study on APEC economies experiences in raising the retirement age, including motivations and basic conditions for implementing such a reform; concrete policy designs and rationale for their use; challenges and opportunities associated with the reform.
The study will be conducted in the form of an online questionnaire to be filled by the economies. The summarized results of the study we would like to send to the economies intersessionally.
