Project Summary
The project seeks to prevent used plastic in APEC economies from becoming marine debris through the development of effective and sustainable waste management systems. The goal is to identify and overcome financial barriers to putting in place waste management systems, by focusing official attention on the issue and preparing policy and practice recommendations for overcoming these barriers through a “Landscape Analysis”. The analysis will inform a high-level meeting of stakeholders in September or October. Finally, the policy and practice recommendations together proposed next steps and milestones to guide commitments from necessary stakeholders including (industry, MDBs, domestic/local governments) will be submitted for endorsement by APEC member economies.
