Project Summary

Background: Among various issues related to women’s empowerment, gender gap in companies’ leading positions (corporate boards and senior management level) has been one of most important challenges for all APEC economies.

Though various policies have been made to promote gender diversity on boards or in senior management level by each economy, it still remains important issues for governments and companies in APEC economies to incorporate women’s leadership into companies’ mechanism, as a potential driver for corporate growth.

“50 leading companies for women in APEC”, which was conducted in 2014, provides companies’ good practices on women’s leadership and empowerment in various workplaces.

As the next step of the 50 leading companies project, this project puts more focus on the impact of gender diversity on boards and in senior management level, and picks up and compile  companies’ best practices  to achieve corporate growth by promoting women’s leadership in leading position.

Objectives: The key objectives of this project is to deepen understanding of APEC economies on how gender diversity on boards and in senior management of companies positively affect for its corporate growth, by sharing companies good practices.

Activities: This project includes following activities:

1) to review past and current academic research papers which explain co-relations between gender diversity on boards and corporate performance; and

2) to conduct case studies and compile good company cases (of several economies) which women on boards or in senior management positions greatly contribute to the improvement of corporate value, such as corporate governance, talent management, organizational management and so on.

(The study details will be designed through further consideration by consulting with the research firm which will be commissioned by the project overseer.)

Output: The final report will be published in November 2016 (before/after AMM).
