Project Summary

Technological advancements in the ‘digital economy’ spur innovation, are major drivers of global growth, and may provide opportunities to expand services trade and investment.

Australia is proposing to co-host a blue sky workshop with PECC to further explore these opportunities. The workshop will be held in Singapore in April 2016, and will target small services and technology firms to:

·  understand how changes in technology are opening up new markets for services, as well as goods

·  consider the extent of opportunities for business to expand trade through utilising new technologies

·  consider government policy reforms to maximise the benefits of technology for services trade.

The outcomes of the workshop will inform a paper Australia will use to promote dialogue with the ABAC and interested APEC member economies. It will complement APEC’s ongoing work on structural and regulatory reform and inform the APEC Services Competitiveness Roadmap.
