This symposium and associated documentation is the culmination of a series of symposia that aims to enhance the capacity of policy officers, regulators and industry in APEC economies to:
· understand how policies and regulations which limit competition and openness in services markets impact adversely on economic growth and productivity; and
· share and promote good regulatory practices that promote competition, openness and efficiency in services markets, and connectivity among those markets in the region.
Leading up to this symposium, the lessons learned and experiences shared in previous symposia will inform a ‘Compendium of Good Practice in the Regulation of Services Trade’, which will act as a resource for APEC economies undertaking regulatory reform and help to inform the APEC Services Competitiveness Roadmap.
The Symposium will be informed by the APEC Services Cooperation Framework and bring together approximately 30 representatives from previous workshops (ie. Subject Matter Experts, Participants, Facilitators, OECD, World Bank) together with APEC services experts. They will examine and bring together the Good Practice Principles from past workshops to develop a holistic set of Good Practice Principles for the Service Sector which will also help to inform the development of the APEC Services Competitiveness Roadmap.
The Symposium is likely to be in June/July 2016 with the location at this stage to be Kuala Lumpur.
