Project Summary

APEC family is seriously facing the challenges of dynamic environment on economic development and large-scale/large-scope of natural disasters, earthquakes, in particular. Recent major earthquakes around the Pacific Rim and between the Indian and the Eurasian seismic zone have resulted in serious loss of life and damage to property. This year, Chinese Taipei would like to initiate a proposal entitled APEC Training Programs for Seismic Design of Structures 2015 from October 12 to 16 at the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) of Chinese Taipei. This training program allows participants from the APEC region to learn about earthquake engineering research and practices in Chinese Taipei, exchange ideas, and share experiences. A total of nineteen technical lectures will be scheduled in this program, including topics on seismic observations and hazard analysis; seismic design of structures (buildings and bridges); seismic design of foundations; seismic evaluation and retrofitting of structures (buildings and bridges); energy dissipation and isolation systems; seismic loss estimation; and the latest research programs conducted at NCREE. Young officials, researchers and engineers related to earthquake engineering are welcome to attend the training program. Over thirty participants from APEC economies will be invited. After training, participant may extend the experience in Chinese Taipei to their own economies in policy making, disaster reduction and seismic performance upgrading of structures. We believe that this training program will provide an effective and efficient method to reduce earthquake disaster for APEC economies. All training materials will be disseminated through internet.
