Project Summary

Water shortage is not only a life-threatening problem but also is an obstacle to economic growth, since water is indispensable for any industrial activity. Water pollution is unwelcome in several ways. First of all, it harms people’s health; polluted water increases risk of diseases such as diarrhea, especially among children. Polluted water stinks and impairs quality of life. It also damages biodiversity.

On the other hand, each economy has its solution or best practice against these problems; some are technological and others are systemic ones. APEC economies should share each economy’s solution or best practice for securing water resource and conservation of water environment, focusing on economic, social and technological aspects.

Based on these concerns, APEC economies will hold Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) on the margin of SOM3 in Cebu in terms of securing drinking water and conservation of water environment through drainage treatment especially in urban areas from the perspective of technology and system. Based on the PPD, a collection paper of good practices will be established and shared to SOM3, and SOM may advise their leaders or ministers to confirm the importance of efforts on securing water resource and conservation of water environment as well as sharing solutions and best practices for them.
