Project Summary

The project is a two-day workshop to be held in Manila by August 2015. It is expected to provide an overview on Nutrigenomic researches among APEC economies and is aimed to create a collaborative framework through sharing of knowledge and best practices in Nutrigenomics as an enabling technology to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

The workshop is comprised of two themes: (1) Nutrigenomics and Public Health and, (2) Harmonization of APEC Genomic Research Infrastructure. The first theme will dissect the roles of Nutrigenomics in addressing NCDs while highlighting the strategies to improve the management of nutritionally-related NCDs focusing on the individual’s susceptibility to diet, exercise and genetic variability. The second theme will serve as a precursor in drafting an APEC statement to recognize genomic technology as a vital innovation. This theme will define the areas for regional integration and provide information on the feasibility of Nutrigenomics to prosper in APEC economies.
