The project is a two-day workshop to be held in Manila by August 2015. It is expected to provide an overview on Nutrigenomic researches among APEC economies and is aimed to create a collaborative framework through sharing of knowledge and best practices in Nutrigenomics as an enabling technology to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The workshop is comprised of two themes: (1) Nutrigenomics and Public Health
and, (2) Harmonization of APEC Genomic Research Infrastructure
. The first theme will dissect the roles of Nutrigenomics in addressing NCDs while highlighting the strategies to improve the management of nutritionally-related NCDs focusing on the individual’s susceptibility to diet, exercise and genetic variability. The second theme will serve as a precursor in drafting an APEC statement to recognize genomic technology as a vital innovation. This theme will define the areas for regional integration and provide information on the feasibility of Nutrigenomics to prosper in APEC economies.
